I am attempting to trace my Father NEIL WOODS, who I believed may have undertaken National Service, within the 1950s.
He was born in 1937/8 and I do not have a great deal of information to go on and regrettably no DOB or ServiceNo.
He was an Engineer and may have served at RAF Cosford.
He lived at Whitemere Road, Mount Pleasant, Shrewsbury
After his time in the RAF he was Lecturing at Shrewsbury Technical College.
I was wondering if anyone remembers him and could help me to track my father down who may or may not still be alive?
I realise there is very little to go on, however I am pretty desperate but determined.

Malcolm Flack
ex 3151816 SAC - admires all the numerous group photos taken at Wilmslow but has not seen many around the time he was there.
He has looked at those that are shown on the website (and others) without success.
He arrived there for square bashing just after Easter April 1957 and was in "C"Flight and thinks he was in Hut 323 .
His records show him as passing out around the first week in June 1957.
He then went on to RAF Weeton for MT driver training and subsequently to RAF Changi on the Troopship "Dunera" for the rest of his National Service.
He assumes that everyone was photographed within a group , however he cannot ever remember having one taken whilst there.
Any photos about this time would be appreciated by e-mail to: malcolm@flack14.freeserve.co.uk

He was involved in the radio station you guys ran and was also into boxing out there. He was called home suddenly aged 18 as his mother was gravely ill with cancer. If any other members of 12 Flight of that time frame read this I would be pleased to receive correspondence via e-mail.
As a help about the middle of our 8 weeks we had a weekend pass for Whitsun and had problems returning to Camp because there was a general strike and no trains were operating.

LESLIE LEWIS HYDE was in the RAF and was at West Kirby, working in the Station Head Quarters, some time between 1939 - 1945, or later.
He was born in 1908 and died in 1977. His Son has a photo of him (non uniform), and would like to find anyone who knew his Dad, and has any photos of him during his time in the RAF. His Service Number was 1197255, and his rank on leaving RAF was LAC.
Leslie's last years, were lived in 242 Market Road, Cheshire and his final days at Shalom House.
His Wife at the time was Maisie Hyde and she lived at 172 Haden Hill, Willow Cottage, in outer Birmingham.
His Son Geoff applied to the RAF about 2 months ago, duly paid his fee and enclosed his own Birth certificate to ask for his Fathers complete service record, they did warn him it might take up to 3 months, but to date, he has not heard anything from them. If you did know Leslie Lewis Hyde, please let me know then I can let his Son have your details to contact you. Les Haines: les.haines@btinternet.com

JOHN RICHARDS poses a search which is a very long shot in that he is looking for a chap who was in the Billet with him at RAF HEDNESFORD when it was No 5 PDU in February / March 1951.
My recollection is that he was reasonably heavily built, wore a uniform, never a jacket though nor buttoned up!
He appeared to have his own 'room' but never seem to have any job or subject to any discipline He did however have this fairly large bird as a pet.
I find it hard to believe he was a National Service man probably have been called 'Birdman'. Not even sure I ever learnt it!
Even though the occupiers of that hut were almost certainly permanent staff, they (and me) seemed rather in awe of said AC2 or AC1.
I appreciate that after all this time, the chances of finding anyone who can remember that individual in our hut is very remote but if anyone can throw any light on this character - name etc - he would like to hear from you:
JOHN RICHARDS. Tel: 07720936297 or e mail: john.gw@lineone.net

JOHN DAVAN - SAC 3130040: Looking for any Fighter Plotters who were stationed at Ismailia from 1951 to 1952 and worked at the building known as No 1 S.O.R. Sector Operations Room.
This was off of the main camp up the road alongside the Sweetwater Canal towards El Firdan.
I first went to Padgate in October of 1950, then to Wilmslow for squarebashing, there is a photo of my group already on the website.
I was at Hednesford for a while waiting to go overseas and finally left I think in the March of 1951, mis posted to Habbanyia and then sent to Ismailia, and since there were so many Fighter Plotters there I ended up for the last few months of my service watering the officers polo pitch with a fellow named LESLIE REYNARD.
Some of the names I remember and would like to hear from are, NEIL HOWELL, MICHAEL BUTLER, ROY LUNN(played the cornet), KEN HASLAM, LEN FLACK, others I can only remember their surname, WHITEHAED, SHEPHERD, SANTER, CANT, HIBBERT, Chadwick, Willis, Blackwell. I have enclosed a photo of the building No. 1 S.O.R. and a photo taken outside our billet before we were moved to the tented site on the other side of the airfield.
I am second from the left kneeling, the first fellows name was MACNAMARA, not all of them were fighter plotters.
It wasn't a bad time, I was in the model aeroplane club and spent a lot of time making model aircraft.
I emigrated to Canada in 1956, now living in Shelburne, Ontario, my email address is jed040@hotmail.com
X refer to GALLERY: RAF Ismailia for pics.
